Letter to the Blazer

Letter to the Blazer

From Me to You -

A new kind of inbox ritual.

This isn’t your typical brand broadcast. It’s more of a check-in — from my desk (or car, which is where I am writing this from) to yours. A little space where I can share what’s inspiring me, what’s new at 431-88, and what I’m actually wearing right now (spoiler: it’s probably a blazer).

This blog is where you’ll find the things I’m loving, the pieces we’ve just dropped, and a peek into the way I live and build this brand.

Not many know but I started my career on Savile Row. There, I learned the cuts, seams and singular details of perfect tailoring - something that I always bring to the drawing table with me today.

At 431-88, we design for women who are on the go. A woman who wants to look like she’s made an effort without actually having to make one. Glamour, yes. But make it convenient. So, for my first newsletter, I bring to you my first love — tailoring.

Enjoy, and as always - look sharp!

— Shweta Kapur, founder, 431-88

Spotlight: 9-6

Why do we love wearing a good tailored look?

  • The fact that blazers are often slouchy yet formidable and have the audacity to elevate a Lululemon look.

  • It can spell out sexy quietly and not shout it.

  • There’s a reason why almost every It Girl—from Rekhaji to Zendaya— has at least one iconic image of herself in a suit.

  • Girls wear dresses. Women wear suits.

Tailoring is our love language at 431-88, and we like to rewrite it for the female gaze. The 9–6 edit is an ode to women who move through their day like a well-cut sentence. No wasted words, no unnecessary fuss. Tailored trousers that feel as easy as jorts, shirts that come with just the right glint of embroidery, and draped skirts that catch the summer breeze. It’s power dressing, but softer, more intuitive — the kind that works with you, not against your calendar.

Here’s what ELLE had to say about our new drop

The Suit Goes Places

📍 To the corner café: Shweta wears her ivory 9-6 blazer over a tank and cargos. Coffee order: iced latte with almond milk. Tip: Ground the blazer in New Balance trainers for the day, and elevate it with Miu Miu loafers for mezcal / martinis in the evening.

📍 To take-off: Alia Bhatt in our brown blazer proves that style travels well — even when patience doesn’t.

📍 To cocktails: Blazer, slip, statement hoops, and a bag that books the table (We’re vouching for the Alaïa Tekla - it really works). It’s a look that says you RSVP’d yes, with conditions.

Trending pairings:
This week’s favourite bag: The Alaïa Tekla
Shweta’s shoes of choice: New Balance
Jewellery that punctuates the point: Cos’ everyday jewellery
Bookmark this cocktail spot: Kamei, New Delhi

From the Founder’s Desk

Currently? Covered in post-its, fabric swatches and my third cup of coffee.

I’ve been deep in planning mode - mapping out the next phase of 431-88, rethinking workwear, dreaming up new ways to make getting dressed feel exciting and effortless. Our new 431-88 Journal is what I’m scribbling in between meetings — part planner, part chaos, but somehow it all makes sense. I use it to sketch, write, and basically unload my brain.
