431-88 is a luxury, women’s ready-to-wear label operating from New Delhi since 2012. Guided by modernity, sensuality, and femininity, its collections address a global woman who is sexy, confident and free spirited. Each season the label offers up dynamic range of ultra cool urban wear that seeks to carry the 431-88 woman through her everyday and more formal aspects of her jet-setting life. Casting a fresh lens on traditional Indian wear, the label also explores heritage dressing with a more contemporary twist, ensuring that each season challenges tradition and is always surprising.
Strongly rooted in the now but with a keen eye on the future, 431-88 is very much defined by its unique design language—supreme craftsmanship, fine tailoring, and attention to detail. The clothes come with a refined ease that draw inspiration from contemporary culture and the lives of India’s hip urban women who are driven, independent and constantly reinventing themselves.
The label sees independent thought and self expression as true luxury in an age that’s so consumed with filters and facades. Which is why it’s perfect for regular women doing exceptional things travelling the world, owning their unique stories, and being bold and sexy always.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Shweta Kapur is the founder and creative director of 431-88. Since launching her label in 2012, Kapur has developed a unique design language that celebrates self expression and an independent spirit through its modern retelling of classical Indian silhouettes, fine tailoring and luxe urban wear.
Having graduated from London College of Fashion with an Honours in Fashion Design (Womenswear), she learned her way into the fashion business through university and several important internships in London, New York and India—having assisted at shoots for Vogue Italia and worked for labels such as Burberry, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, and VPL.
In 2014, she was invited to make her runway debut by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). That spring, her first show for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLFW) brought her immediate acclaim for her distinctly strong silhouettes, sexy sportswear and urban chic. Ten collections strong, 431-88 has become a regular on the Indian fashion calendar under Kapur’s creative direction, her work also earning her the Elle Graduates Award for Excellence in Urban Tailoring (2013).
With her inherent sense for what women want, Kapur creates, out of her studio in New Delhi, individualistic pieces that come together to tell a story about modern women—their lives, travels, and stories. Regular women, doing exceptional things, unbound by rules, and constantly reinventing themselves—reflecting a lifestyle and way of being that is as honest and authentic to her own life.
